Carbocage was founded in 2007 in Winnenden in Germany by Sigi Strohn. Sigi, being an avid 4X rider himself,  had taken a closer look at his 4X bike in order to optimize it and found that many of the available chain guides were simply too heavy for what they need to be doing, being primarily designed for DH use. He turned to a CNC machine and made his own out of the best materials he could get his hands on – 2mm thick carbon plate. He found the material to be astonishingly suitable for a chain guide for 4X use as it is not only superlight, but also possesses ideal resistance to moderate impacts. The advantage is also, that the carbon will always flex back into its original position after impacts instead of bending like an alloy guide would. Also, with the spacers used, incrementless adjustability means you can get the chain completely rub-free.   

The Carbocage chainguide was born! The chainguide, which was then to became the chainguide of choice by European 4X Champion 2010 Joost Wichman! With Roger Rinderknecht, Johannes Fischbach, David Graf and Guido Tschugg the Carbocage 4X chainguide is used by further top ten World Cup riders. They, just like the majority of the German 4X elite riders, rely on the perfect function of the lightest chain guide on the market.

Since the introduction of the Carbocage 4X in 2006, a Carbocage FR and Carbocage Mini have been introduced as well as the Taco. The FR is suitable for long travel bikes and the Mini suitable for small chainrings such as are often used on 29ers. The Taco is an add on for the FR or Mini making them suitable for DH riding by adding a ISCG mounted bash plate.
