INTEND BLACKLINE: Taking the technical brilliance of Intend to a larger number of customers.
At EightyOneSpices we have been following Cornelius's solutions all around the bike ever since he presented his first fork back in 2015 and love what he has been doing from the start. We were very pleased when he announced the new Blackline range of products as this meant, that finally we could offer his product to our customers.
Who is Cornelius?
Intend BC is continously growing and no longer a one-man show anymore. The founder is Cornelius Kapfinger, born in 1986 in Regensburg / Germany. He studied at the Technical University in Vienna / Austria and graduated successfully in industrial engineering. His number one passion is mountain bikes. His job and what he loves most is the development of outstanding bicycle components. Supported by a small number of staff, he develops and manufactures the components he wants to ride on his own bike.
What is INTEND?
Years ago, Cornelius started to build his own fork from scratch. Countless valves, rods and stanchions later, he decided to go all in and founded Intend Bicycle Components.
The main goal is to focus on the essentials and to be able to deliver high-quality engineering, precision, and good service. This is what he strives for with INTEND – every hour, every day. There is no fancy office and no huge production line. It’s a small place that includes everything that is necessary.
This is what Intend Bicycle Components is striving for!
What is the INTEND Blackline?
The Blackline products are more streamlined than the solutions Carnelius' INTEND BC range is so well known for. Rather, the Blackline range consists of solutions, which do not lead to confusion. If parts differ too much from the mainstream, customers get scared.
Two instead of four bolts at a handlebar clamp? No lower guards on an USD fork ? These are solutions which are lighter and have a better appearance, but they lead to questions, concerns and doubts.
The Intend Blackline satisfies the wish for technical perfection with the common sense of how products should look like and function.
This is what Cornelius' aim is with the Intend Blackline range
What are the differences between Intend BC and Intend Blackline?
Intend Bicycle Components are high quality, 99% made in Germany products. They are made with the idea in mind, to go one step further in function, design and craftsmanship. They are made in different colors and different versions, which leads to higher variety. They are assembled piece by piece, for the needs of the individual customer. Products however simply get expensive then, which is only possible in direct sales. That is why Intend Bicycle Components are not available at your dealer, but only from INTEND directly. The Intend Blackline is different.
The Blackline products share the same technologies, same air spring, same seals, same Stiffmaster-bearings and so on, but the approach of the product is different.
The aim has been, to reduce the prices for end consumer and to reach more customers who need support through their local dealer. So the Blackline is more affordable and not only available through Intend, but also at the dealer of your choice.
To be able to reduce prices, it is necessary to offer the Blackline parts in only one color. Black. Now the term “Blackline” should make sense.
Also necessary for reduced prices are less questions about products. Simple, understandable technologies which do not need too much explanation. A good example are right side up forks. No questions about stiffness, lower guards, cable routing. Just simple, easily understandable technologie.
And the third part to make all that possible:
Production in Germany, where it is possible, and production in Not-Germany where it is essential from an economical point of view.
This means:
Intend Blackline products are not cheaper, or have worse quality, they are more affordable due to the reduction of not necessary colors, more economical production and nevertheless with a lower effort for selling.
To get an appearance, which matches the high quality craftsmanship, all Intend Blackline laser logos on the products are BLACK. That means they are laser etched BEFORE anodizing.
