CARBOCAGE ChainringsExactly round chain rings are not optimized from a stress analysis point of view.
Here we don’t mean the outer but the inner contour. This is why the CARBOCAGE chain rings have the material in the areas of low stress removed and added in the areas of high stress.
The highest stress occurs in the starting gate or when accelerating after a tight corner.
The chain ring quarter facing the cranks experiences the least stress, as the rider cannot apply such a high force when the crank is at 12 or 6 O’clock (crank vertically). This is why the CARBOCAGE chain rings have the least material used in these quarters, whereas more material is used in the quarters normal to the crank which experience the most chain torque when the cranks are being pushed down. In addition, each quarter is formed asymmetrically in order to assure an even stress distribution. The ideal material distribution was calculated using a computer stress analysis simulation.
This ensure, the CARBOCAGE is the strongest in its weight category and hence ideal for sporting categories such as 4X, downhill and BMX, in which is quick acceleration crucial.
